Air Source Heat Pump - Go Free Energy Green

Air Source Heat Pump

An air source heat pump (ASHP) is a renewable energy technology that extracts heat from the ambient air outside a building and uses it for space heating or to provide hot water. The basic principle involves absorbing heat from the outdoor air, even in colder temperatures, and then boosting that heat to a higher temperature for use in a building’s heating system

ASHPs work on the same thermodynamic principles as a refrigerator but in reverse. They consist of an outdoor unit that contains a fan to draw in air and a refrigerant coil to extract heat, and an indoor unit to distribute the generated heat throughout the building. ASHPs are considered environmentally friendly as they use the freely available ambient air as their heat source, and they typically operate more efficiently than traditional heating systems.

One significant advantage of air source heat pumps is their versatility. They can provide both heating and cooling, acting as air conditioners in warmer months. Additionally, they are more energy-efficient than some traditional heating methods, contributing to reduced energy consumption and lower carbon emissions. ASHPs have gained popularity as a sustainable and efficient alternative for residential and commercial heating systems.
